Nuff Sedd
Nuffsedd Three time Hawaiian Music Award Winners In 2004 Nuff Sedd burst onto the Hawaii music scene with their cutting edge sound incorporating their many influences from ska and reggae, to funk and R&B, classic and alternative rock, oldies but goodies, and even today's top 40 hits. With the release of their debut album, "Open Doors for Strangers," Nuff Sedd emerged as one of Hawaii's premier bands being well received with dominating record sales and sell-out crowds throughout the Hawaiian Islands, Japan and the South Pacific. The members labored for nearly two years writing, creating, rehearsing, producing and recording the 16 original tracks on the album. The band was recognized in 2005 with several prestigious awards at the Hawaiian Music Awards: Group of the Year, Best New Artist, and Song of the Year with their hit single "Cherry Bomb," while also being nominated at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for "Reggae Album of the Year." All the members of Nuff Sedd were raised on the slopes of Haleakala and continue to call Maui their home. They originally formed the band Ho'omau, which consisted of 7 members in 1998. Ho'omau received some local success as well as radio play. But, after Ho'omau disbanded in 2000, 4 of the 7 members regrouped and formed Nuff Sedd during that same year. Nuff Sedd consists of band leader, lead vocalist and guitarist Joshua Kahula, bass guitarist and backing vocalist David Wood, saxophonist and backing vocalist Kit Okazaki and Duane Rosa on drums. Joshua Kahula wrote and helped to compose and arrange many of the songs on their albums. As a full time musician, Joshua has had the chance to play music with many gifted and talented musicians. Probably the most memorable moment was getting to play keyboards for Hawaii based reggae superstar group Natural Vibrations, and then having the artist known as PRINCE show up unexpectedly and sit in with the group on their set. In his down time, Joshua likes to spend time with his wife and kids, and enjoys going to the beach. David Wood recently moved back to Maui after living in Oregon for 4 years, and helped to write, compose and arrange the songs on Nuff Sedd’s new album. David and Josh collaborate as the creative talents behind the music of the band. Kit Okazaki lives upcountry and gives Nuff Sedd that signature brass sound. He is a man of many facets having been a fireman, EMT medic, Morgan Stanley broker, Bank of Hawaii financial advisor and most recently the manager of his own State Farm insurance office in Makawao. In his down time you can either find Kit at the beach or actively taking part in the community whether it is coaching his nephew’s soccer team, or being president of the rotary club. Rounding out the band is Duane Rosa on drums. Having been influenced by the music of the 80's, especially power bands, like the Police and Van Halen, Duane definitely gives the band a big sound. Duane is still a kid at heart, and has so much passion for music that his motto is "Quit Work, Make Music." Nuff Sedd released  their much anticipated sophomore album entitled "Life....in a song" slated for release in the summer of 2011, having received  radio play locally and internationally with their first single off the new album "Bits and Pieces." Nuff Sedd has continued to make new original music. In spite of the pandemic, Nuff Sedd  released the single ‘Minds on You’ in the summer of 2020 which was well received and is in steady rotation at local radio stations. In the summer of 2021, Nuff Sedd released another groovy track with an amazing music video produced by @poly50fficial named ‘call you everyday.’ Another song well received from listeners and viewers. Nuff Sedd intends to keep creating music and share the aloha spirit with everyone, especially during these crazy times that we are living.
