Abby Lokelani

Abby Lokelani
Maui born, Abby Lokelani is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. Her sound is inspired by a plethora of genres and fits somewhere between “jazzy-pop" and "indie-folk".  Abby’s classical training as a cellist and taste for world music has shaped her unique sound as a songwriter. Her lyrics are raw and honest with catchy melodies that pull you into your deepest emotions. Abby is currently Boston-based, where she has been studying at Berklee College of music and recording an upcoming album. In Abby's words: "I write music to make people feel something. If my music leaves you in tears, or just makes you want to scream for joy - I think I've done my job as an artist. I want my art to give a voice to all the feelings that get bottled up and ignored inside a person; nothing is more healing than being in touch with yourself. Every song takes it's listener on a journey, my songs aren't for the faint of heart. I want my songs to be reminiscent of that feeling you get right after you see a sunrise erupt in color, or when you dance in the rain crying happy tears with your friends. I write about forbidden feelings. My lyrics are an echo of what everyone wishes they could have said, but didn't. I often feel the most inspired to create music when I'm in a broken place. When I'm in that state, a lot of beautiful revelations shine through the cracks."
